What to Do During a Slow Hunt

Hunting can be an exhilarating experience. However, there will also be slow moments as you’re waiting for your prey or simply taking a rest. So, how can you pass the time? Here are a few ways:

Bring your smartphone

It’s always a good idea to bring your smartphone on a hunt just in case someone needs to get a hold of you, or you need to contact someone else. You can also use your smartphone, though, to pass the time. Play games, listen to music, or simply scroll the internet as you wait. Just make sure your phone is on silent or that you use headphones so it doesn’t scare away any animals.

Bring a book

A smartphone is nice to have, but sometimes you’ll be in areas with poor cell service. Then, it’s next to useless. So, bring something that doesn’t require cell service or internet: a book! You can bring a book on hunting or simply one of your favorite novels.

Check your gear

Since you have time on your hands, you can take this as an opportunity to double-check your gear. Make sure everything is in working order and that you have everything you need.

Take in the environment around you

Hunting is a great opportunity to truly appreciate the natural world. During the down times of a hunt, just try taking in your surroundings. Listen to the birds chirping, feel the wind on your face, and admire any beautiful scenery around you. Too often, we humans are so obsessed with our goals that we don’t take time to admire our surroundings.
