Antelope hunting season is just around the corner. However, before you head out to Montana’s lands, you’ll want to make sure you have everything you need for your hunt. From camouflage to rifles to the basic necessities, we discuss what you should get when you start preparing for your antelope hunt.
Camouflage
Camouflage is a must when you go out for an antelope hunt. Depending on the weather and the conditions, you should be wearing lightweight to midweight camo pants, shirts, jackets, and vests. Your camouflage should fit your surroundings while also providing ample protection from the elements.
Water and snacks
When it comes to hunting, patience is key. As such, you’ll be spending many hours tracking down your first antelope. You’ll want to be prepared by bringing snacks and water to stay healthy and on top of your game.
Rifle or bow
This may be the most obvious, but you’ll need to bring your bow or rifle with you on your hunt. Which one you choose will depend on your skillset and how you want your antelope hunt to play out. Archery hunting is more physically demanding, but it brings you closer to nature and is more rewarding for many hunters. Rifle hunting, on the other hand, is better for beginners and provides greater accuracy.
Bug repellent
Bugs aren’t a big problem when antelope hunting, but it’s good to prepare for them all the same. You can use something as simple as bug spray, or you can invest in something like a ThermaCell for long-term protection.
Knee pads
Chances are you’re going to be spending a lot of your time on the ground. This can wreak havoc on your knees. As such, a pair of knee pads that strap around your legs can keep you comfortable and prevent you from hurting too much the next morning.
